The Tourism Bureau has teamed up with EVA Airways Corp. for a marketing campaign to promote Taiwan in major Eastern European cities using buses painted with images of the island’s major attractions.

The bureau’s branch office in Frankfurt, Germany, said Nov. 16 that emerging Eastern European economies have experienced strong growth in recent years and that more and more citizens in the region are therefore becoming interested in traveling abroad.

The office also pointed out that EVA was seen as a natural partner in the promotion campaign as the carrier offers three direct flights per week to and from Vienna, Austria, an important gateway to Eastern Europe.

Under the one-year marketing campaign launched this autumn, three buses traveling from Vienna to the Czech Republic capital Prague, the Slovakian capital Bratislava and other major Eastern European cities have been decorated with various representations of the island’s tourism hot spots under the theme of “Taiwan—The Heart of Asia,” as well as images celebrating the 20th anniversary of EVA Airways’ direct flight services to Vienna.

The Tourism Bureau launched a similar campaign at the start of this year featuring decorated buses and trolley cars in major German cities, including Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart. The success of that campaign led the bureau to expand it to Eastern Europe. (SB)
